The issuance of XMR is designed to be predictable and perpetual. Miners who successfully produce a block receive inflationary emissions as a reward for providing hash power.

• Block Time: Blocks are produced approximately every two minutes.
• Block Reward: The reward is fixed at 6 XMR per block in perpetuity.
• Tail Emission: This perpetual reward (tail emission) ensures that miners always have an incentive to secure the network, even after the majority of the initial supply has been mined. This prevents the network from relying solely on transaction fees, which can be volatile.

Dynamic Block Size and Reward Penalties

Monero features a dynamic block size mechanism. While there is a "soft cap" on block sizes, miners can produce larger blocks if demand is high. However, to prevent spam and excessive blockchain growth, the block reward is quadratically reduced if a miner produces a block that exceeds the soft cap.

Allocation Mechanism

Monero did not have an Initial Coin Offering (ICO), pre-mine, or founder's reward. Its allocation is entirely decentralized and market-driven:

• Fair Launch: All XMR in circulation was created through the mining process. There were no tokens set aside for a foundation, team, or early investors.
• Mining Distribution: 100% of the supply is distributed to the miners who secure the network.
• Acquisition: Users can acquire XMR through mining or by purchasing it on centralized exchanges (such as Binance, OKX, and KuCoin) and peer-to-peer or decentralized platforms (such as Bisq, LocalMonero, and SimpleSwap).

Usage and Incentive Mechanism

The primary incentive for participating in the Monero ecosystem is the protection of privacy and the earning of rewards for network maintenance.

Miner Incentives

Miners are the primary service providers in the ecosystem. Their incentives include:

• Inflationary Rewards: The 6 XMR block reward.
• Transaction Fees: Miners receive all network transaction fees included in the blocks they produce.

Decentralization Incentives

To prevent the centralization of mining power, Monero continually updates its PoW algorithm. This strategy is specifically designed to be ASIC-resistant, ensuring that individuals using consumer-grade hardware (CPUs) can effectively mine and secure the network, thereby maintaining a high degree of decentralization.

Locking and Unlocking Mechanisms

Monero does not utilize a native staking, delegation, or liquidity provision mechanism within its core protocol. Consequently, the traditional concepts of "locking" and "unlocking" as seen in Proof-of-Stake (PoS) networks do not apply to the Monero protocol itself.

While the protocol itself does not have locking mechanisms, users may encounter locking in third-party contexts (such as centralized exchange withdrawals or specific atomic swap protocols), but these are external to Monero's native token economics.
