PETALING JAYA: Former Bukit Aman internal security director Hazani Ghazali has joined opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin’s Parti Wawasan Negara.
Wawasan also announced that Hazani, the former Border Control and Protection Agency director-general, had been appointed to the party’s central leadership.
“Congratulations and best wishes to Hazani on his appointment as a central committee member of Wawasan,” it said in a Facebook post.
Hazani served with the police force for 38 years and held several key positions, including Sabah police commissioner and commander of the Eastern Sabah Security Command.
Wawasan also announced that Kedah executive councillor Dzowahir Ab Ghani and senator Azahar Hassan from Perlis had likewise joined the party.
Dzowahir, the Suka Menanti assemblyman, was sacked by Bersatu two months ago while Azahar left the same party three days ago.
Azahar’s entrance gives Wawasan its first representative in the Dewan Negara. He was previously the Perlis Bersatu secretary and Kangar Bersatu chief.
Hamzah took over and rebranded Parti Cinta Malaysia as Wawasan after Bersatu sacked him in February at the height of a bitter leadership tussle with party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
