PETALING JAYA: Transport minister Loke Siew Fook has rebuked members of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and DAP’s Johor election machinery for riding motorcycles without wearing helmets while on the campaign trail.
Loke, the DAP secretary-general, said he had ordered the road transport department to issue compounds to anyone found flouting the law, regardless of their political background.
“This includes those who were involved in the viral PH campaign convoy in Johor,” he said in a statement.
“The law must be enforced fairly and justly on all Malaysians. I will not compromise this principle, even if it involves party comrades. The safety of the public supersedes all political interests.”
Loke also said he had been consistent on this stand even in 2020, when he criticised Barisan Nasional leaders campaigning in the Slim by-election for riding without helmets.
