KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed flat against the US dollar after US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) minutes signalled a less unified stance on further policy tightening, an analyst said.
At 6 pm, the ringgit was traded at 4.0750/4.0795 against the US dollar from 4.0750/4.0800 at Wednesday’s close.
Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Afzanizam Rashid said the minutes weighed on the greenback amid expectations that the US central bank may keep interest rates unchanged for the remainder of the year, helping the local currency hold its ground.
