Technician jailed 6 months for possessing fake police ID, authority cards
Nur Tashriq Abd Malek was charged at the Kuala Kangsar magistrates’ court with unlawfully possessing police items.
PETALING JAYA: A wiring technician was jailed for six months by the Kuala Kangsar magistrates’ court for possessing fake police identity and authority cards.
Magistrate Shazmeer Zamhari handed down the sentence after Nur Tashriq Abd Malek pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 89 of the Police Act of unlawfully possessing police items.
The offence was committed at Kampung Sayong Hulu, Kuala Kangsar, on July 15 last year.
Shazmeer said the possession of such items was a serious offence.
“A police identification card is not an ordinary document. It serves as official identification, symbolising the authority and powers conferred by law on a police officer in carrying out his duties.
“Wrongful possession of such items has the potential to undermine the integrity of the police force and could be misused by the accused to deceive the public,” he said.
According to the facts of the case, police received a report on July 15, 2025 regarding the theft of Telekom Malaysia cables.
Police arrested Tashriq that same day, and he admitted to attempting to steal the cables.
A further search found a yellow card bearing his photograph with the words “Royal Malaysia Police, Police No 1743784” under the name “Korporal Muhammad Zairul Nizam Bin Shahrul”, as well as a blue card bearing his photograph with the words “Royal Malaysia Police”.
