Senior citizen claims trial for injuring brother with parang

PETALING JAYA: A 62-year-old man pleaded not guilty in the magistrates’ court in George Town, Penang to a charge of injuring his elder brother with a parang in Paya Terubong last week.
The accused, Chan Kin Yean, entered the plea after the charge was read before magistrate Tunku Intan Nadiah Nazarin, Harian Metro reported.
According to the charge, framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code, Chan is accused of intentionally causing injury to his brother, Chan Kim Seong, 65, with a parang.
The alleged offence occurred at 3.30pm on June 21.
If convicted, Kin Yean could be jailed for up to 10 years or fined or whipped.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Marissa Safina Saiful Adli represented the prosecution, while Cheah Eng Soon represented the accused.
The court set bail at RM7,500 with one surety. Tunku Intan Nadiah also ordered Kin Yean not to tamper with witnesses or contact his brother throughout the trial.
She also fixed Aug 17 for re-mention.
