Dozens of Alaska Airlines flights were canceled and several passengers complained of delays after a tech systems outage on Thursday night triggered a ground stop for the carrier’s flights nationwide, in an apparent repeat of a similar outage and groundings the company faced earlier this year.

In a statement on Thursday evening, the airline said it was “experiencing an IT outage affecting operations,” and a “temporary ground stop” has been put in place until the issue is resolved.
In the post, Alaska Airlines urged passengers who were scheduled to fly on Thursday night to check their flight status “before heading to the airport.”
The carrier told several news outlets that a failure in its primary data center caused the IT outage.
The ground stops were also in effect for Horizon Air, the Alaska Airlines-owned regional carrier.
The airline later said, “We are actively restoring our operations following an IT outage.”
In a follow-up post on X, Alaska Air acknowledged the IT outage “has resulted in cancellations of some of our flights this evening and into tomorrow.”
How Many Alaska Airlines Planes Have Been Impacted?
According to FlightAware’s tracker, at least 73 Alaska Airlines and 12 Horizon Air flights have been canceled as of early Friday morning. Flights from Seattle–Tacoma International Airport, the carrier’s primary hub, were the worst hit, with 32 outbound flights from the airport being canceled at the time of publishing.
