Jim Jordan confronted by Trump's own words on CNN: 'I'm not going to start a war'

CNN host Kasie Hunt and Rep. Jim Jordan engaged in a heated exchange Thursday on "The Arena" over Trump's Iran bombing campaign.

Jordan defended the strikes as necessary retaliation for Iranian-caused American military deaths and claimed Trump sought to prevent Iran's nuclear development. However, Hunt countered by replaying Trump's campaign promises not to start new wars and his previous criticisms of the 2003 Iraq invasion for destabilizing the Middle East.

Hunt directly quoted Trump's campaign pledge: "I'm not going to start a war; I'm going to stop wars," asking how the Iran bombing aligned with that commitment.

Jordan argued Trump attempted diplomacy, noting special envoy Steve Witkoff negotiated with Iran for months before concluding Tehran was committed to pursuing nuclear weapons with no alternative remaining.

The exchange highlighted tensions between Trump's campaign rhetoric and his current military operations.
