Vodacom South Africa has achieved a significant milestone—the first demonstration of this capability on the African continent—with the successful testing of SuperUpload, a 5G advanced technology that delivers uplink speeds of 254 Mbps. This breakthrough reinforces Vodacom’s ongoing 5G network leadership in the country, particularly on speed and performance, setting new standards for how it connects customers.

What These Speeds Mean

Uplink speeds of approximately 250 Mbps are typically associated with high-end fibre-to-the-home connections. With SuperUpload, customers experience the same lightning-fast performance on their mobile devices, enabling seamless cloud backups, rapid large file transfers, and high-quality video conferencing, all without being tethered to a desk.

For perspective, according to Ookla’s January 2026 Speedtest Global Index, the fastest median mobile internet speed in Africa was 124.32 Mbps in Morocco. SuperUpload doubles this benchmark.

Essentially, SuperUpload allows a 5G phone to use two different channels to send data and enables it to pick the faster one automatically. As network conditions change, the device shifts to the channel with less traffic or a stronger signal. This results in quicker uploads, smoother video calls, and more consistent upload performance when sharing large files or working in the cloud.

A New Era of Mobile Connectivity

“We invest significantly in the modernisation of our network to the benefit our customers. The successful testing of SuperUpload means we can continue providing a superior 5G network experience, as the investment in our network continues to pay off. This is not just faster uploads, it represents a fundamental shift in what mobile connectivity makes possible,” says Beverly Ngwenya, Technology Director at Vodacom South Africa.

While 5G initially revolutionised download speeds, the next evolution centres on uplink performance—how quickly users can send data. Modern applications from video conferencing and cloud gaming to AI tools all demand powerful, consistent upload capability. SuperUpload directly addresses this critical need with clear benefits for customers.

SuperUpload delivers tangible advantages including:

  • Up to 250 Mbps uplink speeds – Fibre-class performance on mobile

  • Enhanced stability – Optimised for video, streaming, and AI-powered business applications

  • Reduced latency – supporting real-time communication and seamless collaboration

  • Reliable performance – Consistent speeds across varying coverage conditions

As 5G matures, uplink capability has become a critical differentiator. “SuperUpload enables our network to support the most demanding modern applications with the low latency, consistent performance these applications require,” concludes Ngwenya.

Crypto Credit, Borrowing to Drive Next Big Wave: Bitwise CEO

The post Crypto Credit, Borrowing to Drive Next Big Wave: Bitwise CEO appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Key Highlights:  Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley predicts that credit and borrowing in crypto could explode in the next few months.  Turning U.S. stocks into tokens could let people borrow on the blockchain even with small amounts of shares. This will make credit much easier to access.  Industry data confirms strong growth in on-chain lending and staking.  The crypto industry has survived various waves of innovation, from the rise of Bitcoin and Ethereum to decentralized finance taking over, NFTs, and the anticipated surge of spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs). But according to Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley, the next big shift might not come from these areas, but it could come from crypto credit and borrowing. Speaking on the evolving role of digital assets in traditional capital markets, Horsley projected that credit markets built on crypto and tokenized assets will see explosive growth in the next few years. He also suggested that this transformation could come through within the next 6-12 months and it will reshape how crypto market works. Bitwise CEO talks about the next big thing in crypto The Two Vectors of Growth Horsley in his post on X (formerly known as Twitter) highlighted two major forces that might be converging in the near future: The first reason is the size of the crypto market. As of now, there’s almost $4 trillion worth of cryptocurrency in circulation worldwide and as we can see the number is growing day by day. Due to this growth, many investors do not want to sell their coins, but they still need cash sometimes. According to the Bitwise CEO, borrowing against crypto makes more sense because instead of selling coins, people can instead use them as collateral for loans. In this way, the investors get the money that they want, and their investment in crypto also…
