THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) said it signed a marketing agreement with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) to supply agricultural products to district jails in Oriental Mindoro.
Representatives from the DAR and BJMP’s regional offices in Mimaropa, as well as DAR’s Oriental Mindoro Provincial Office, district jail facilities in the province, and ARB organizations, signed the agreement at a ceremony at the Mindoro State University campus in Calapan City.
Under the agreement, participating ARB organizations will supply produce to district jails in the province, giving farmers a stable outlet for their products, while also meeting the BJMP’s food requirements for its facilities across the province.
The partnership was sealed under the aegis of DAR’s Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (PAHP) program.
The DAR said that the initiative strengthens market access for ARBs by connecting them directly with institutional buyers.
“Through the PAHP Program, DAR continues to forge meaningful partnerships that would help ARBs secure sustainable sources of income while supporting the government’s broader goals of reducing hunger, alleviating poverty, and advancing rural development,” the DAR said in a statement. — Marron Joshua F.
