THE House of Representatives is working to maximize remaining session days to pass key legislative measures ahead of Congress’ sine die adjournment on June 4.
In a statement on Wednesday, House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III said bills related to transparency, online child protection, and disinformation are among those being pushed forward by the chamber.
“We are focused on being productive and maximizing the remaining session days,” Mr. Dy said.
The chamber approved 36 bills on third and final reading, while 29 were approved on second reading from May 25 to 26.
Among the bills that advanced on second reading are the proposed Right to Access Information Act, Child Online Safety and Protection Act of 2026, and the proposed Digital Media Anti-False Information Act.
The Right to Access Information Act aims to strengthen transparency and accountability in government to increase public trust in public services, Mr. Dy said, while also citing the importance of enacting laws against online exploitation and abuse of children.
“Technology should never become a tool for abuse. We must continue strengthening our laws and enforcement mechanisms to ensure the safety and protection of Filipino children in digital spaces,” said Mr. Dy.
He also mentioned the proposed Digital Media Anti-False Information Act, which aims to address the spread of disinformation while strengthening digital literacy and responsible online engagement.
“In this digital age, false information can spread rapidly and cause real harm to communities, institutions, and even national security,” he said.
In addition, the bills that have advanced include the expansion of the National Feeding Program into the National Nutrition Program and the bill to strengthen the Bases Conversion and Development Authority. — Pexcel John Bacon
