According to Trezor, self-custodying Bitcoin is fundamentally different from holding a claim on Bitcoin through an exchange, broker, or fund, as the latter still depends on third-party ledger records and withdrawal arrangements. Trezor stated that only about 10% of the world’s approximately 600 million crypto users control their own private keys, while an estimated 12 million to 13 million people use hardware wallets. Its devices generate and store private keys locally, with transactions signed inside the device. As the European Union’s new crypto regulations take full effect and some platforms without timely authorization discontinue regulated services for EU users, custody risks and control over private keys are once again drawing market attention.
According to Odaily, the Hawkins County Commissioners in Tennessee voted 12–0 to approve a ban on establishing, constructing, installing, expanding, or operating crypto mining facilities and data centers in the county’s unincorporated areas. The commission had previously adopted similar restrictions to prevent ExoticRidge from operating a mining business locally, after which the two sides proposed a settlement containing noise limits. The new ban reflects the continued local opposition faced by energy-intensive facilities over land use, noise, and community governance. It also indicates that local authorities are moving from case-by-case negotiations toward clearer regional restrictions on crypto infrastructure.
According to Odaily, Metaplanet has launched its first Bitbonds issuance in Japan through Metaplanet Securities, targeting selected shareholders and offering an annual interest rate of 4%. The proceeds may be used to expand the company’s BTC reserves. By raising funds through bonds instead of relying solely on additional share issuance, Metaplanet is attempting to enlarge its Bitcoin treasury at a relatively defined cost of capital while reducing direct equity dilution. However, the model places fixed interest expenses and Bitcoin price volatility on the company’s balance sheet simultaneously. If BTC declines or refinancing conditions tighten, debt-servicing pressure and fluctuations in net asset value could intensify.
According to Odaily, stablecoin infrastructure company Brale has launched ION Protocol, allowing participating stablecoins to be burned on one blockchain and minted on another to complete cross-chain transfers. The protocol is currently live on testnet. The stablecoin market contains more than 350 tokens with an aggregate market capitalization exceeding $300 billion, but multichain expansion has also fragmented liquidity. Unlike traditional cross-chain bridges that rely on prefunded liquidity pools, ION aims to reduce capital requirements and ease the liquidity bottlenecks faced by custom stablecoins expanding across multiple networks. Its security, however, will still depend on message verification and the management of issuance permissions.
According to Odaily, 271 completed crypto industry transactions involved $12.86 billion in the second quarter of 2026, up approximately 45% from $8.87 billion in the first quarter. Venture capital ranked first at $4.99 billion, accounting for 39% of the total across 218 rounds. Debt financing reached $4.36 billion through only nine transactions, with IREN’s $3.65 billion financing representing 84% of the debt total. Meanwhile, 40 mergers and acquisitions were valued at a combined $3.33 billion. The ten largest transactions accounted for 67% of disclosed funding, indicating that although overall financing activity recovered, capital remained heavily concentrated among major deals and a small number of established companies.
According to The Block, Tether’s regulated USAT stablecoin has launched on Celo, marking its second mainnet deployment after Ethereum. Issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, USAT can be minted and redeemed natively on Celo and used directly to pay onchain gas fees through Celo’s fee-abstraction mechanism. USAT launched in January and currently has a market capitalization of approximately $185 million. The deployment combines a regulated stablecoin with Celo’s mobile-payment and low-cost transfer use cases. It also suggests that competition among compliant stablecoins is expanding beyond issuance credentials to include multichain distribution, native redemption capabilities, and the practical payment experience.
According to Odaily, Ethereum Institutional has completed its initial funding round and formed an alliance of supporters led by BitMine, SharpLink, and Ethereum co-founders Joseph Lubin and Mihai Alisie, with backing from more than 100 ecosystem participants. The project will provide services for the institutional-grade Ethereum ecosystem, promoting tokenization, stablecoins, onchain market infrastructure, and onchain settlement. It will also offer institutional education, market intelligence, and ecosystem marketing. Its establishment suggests that competition around Ethereum’s institutional adoption is no longer limited to technical scaling but is expanding into market education, commercial coordination, and the integration of settlement infrastructure.
According to Jin10, CME Group is working with index provider FutureSports to introduce futures and options linked to professional and collegiate sporting events. The first sports futures contracts are expected to be cash-settled and expire monthly or quarterly. Subject to regulatory approval, trading could begin as early as this summer. CME aims to bring the price-discovery and risk-management mechanisms of traditional futures markets into the sports industry, allowing related businesses to hedge revenue fluctuations caused by event outcomes. If approved, these products would expand the boundaries of event-based derivatives, although their pricing mechanisms, safeguards against market manipulation, and regulatory distinction from prediction markets remain unresolved.

As of July 30, Ledger continues to identify physical letters containing malicious QR codes as an active phishing campaign. Attackers mail branded letters containing recipients’ personal details and falsely claim that a device requires a security update, verification, or activation of a new feature. Victims are instructed to scan a QR code that leads to an imitation website requesting their 24-word recovery phrase. Once disclosed, the phrase gives attackers complete control of the associated wallet and allows them to transfer its assets. Users should never scan QR codes contained in unsolicited letters or enter recovery phrases on websites accessed through computers or phones. Any firmware update, security verification, or account alert should be checked directly through the official application or a manually entered official website address. Ledger states that any person or page requesting a recovery phrase should be treated as fraudulent.
