Gillibrand renews crypto ethics push after disclosures showed Trump earned over $600M from the $TRUMP memecoin in 2025.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has renewed her call for crypto ethics rules after Donald Trump’s latest financial disclosures.

The disclosures showed more than $600 million in 2025 income from the $TRUMP memecoin, according to the announcement.

Gillibrand wants the president, members of Congress and their spouses barred from issuing or sponsoring digital assets.

The call also comes as reports examine funding for a trading platform linked to Gillibrand’s son.

Gillibrand Pushes New Crypto Ethics Limits

Gillibrand’s proposal focuses on elected officials who may gain from digital assets while serving in office. It would also apply to spouses of covered officials.

Therefore, the plan seeks clearer limits on personal crypto activity. The renewed call follows years of debate over crypto rules in Washington.

Lawmakers have faced rising questions about tokens linked to public figures. As a result, ethics rules have become part of the wider crypto policy debate.

Gillibrand has said public officials should not issue or sponsor digital assets. Her plan targets activity that could mix public office with private financial gain.

However, the proposal would still need support from other lawmakers.

Trump Memecoin Income Brings Fresh Attention

Trump’s financial disclosures placed the $TRUMP memecoin back into the center of policy debate. The reported income exceeded $600 million during 2025.

That figure has drawn attention from lawmakers reviewing political links to crypto assets.

Memecoins often depend on public attention, online trading and the name tied to the token. When a political figure is involved, the market can raise harder ethics questions.

For that reason, Gillibrand is calling for direct limits on official involvement. The debate also shows how fast political tokens can enter public finance discussions.

Buyers may treat these tokens differently from regular crypto assets. Meanwhile, lawmakers are weighing how current ethics laws should cover new digital products.

The announcement also comes amid reports about a business project linked to Gillibrand’s son. Reports say he has raised funding for a perpetual futures exchange.

However, the platform will not use crypto or blockchain technology, according to those reports. The planned exchange has still drawn attention because of one reported backer.

Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen is among the investors linked to the project. Larsen is widely known in the crypto industry through his role at Ripple.

The reported platform is separate from Gillibrand’s proposed crypto ethics rules. Still, the timing has placed both matters in the same public discussion.

Her latest push remains focused on officials issuing or sponsoring digital assets while holding office.

Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC

The post Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson has weighed in on whether the Federal Reserve should make a 25 basis points (bps) Fed rate cut or 50 bps cut. This comes ahead of the Fed decision today at today’s FOMC meeting, with the market pricing in a 25 bps cut. Bitcoin and the broader crypto market are currently trading flat ahead of the rate cut decision. Franklin Templeton CEO Weighs In On Potential FOMC Decision In a CNBC interview, Jenny Johnson said that she expects the Fed to make a 25 bps cut today instead of a 50 bps cut. She acknowledged the jobs data, which suggested that the labor market is weakening. However, she noted that this data is backward-looking, indicating that it doesn’t show the current state of the economy. She alluded to the wage growth, which she remarked is an indication of a robust labor market. She added that retail sales are up and that consumers are still spending, despite inflation being sticky at 3%, which makes a case for why the FOMC should opt against a 50-basis-point Fed rate cut. In line with this, the Franklin Templeton CEO said that she would go with a 25 bps rate cut if she were Jerome Powell. She remarked that the Fed still has the October and December FOMC meetings to make further cuts if the incoming data warrants it. Johnson also asserted that the data show a robust economy. However, she noted that there can’t be an argument for no Fed rate cut since Powell already signaled at Jackson Hole that they were likely to lower interest rates at this meeting due to concerns over a weakening labor market. Notably, her comment comes as experts argue for both sides on why the Fed should make a 25 bps cut or…
